About 2 weeks back we got 3 “pullets” they were all 2 1/2 months old at the time when we first got them I was not sure about one “she” looked pretty “roostery” we got two Lavender Opingtons and a Barred Rock. When I told the lady about him she’s insisted it was a pullet. He will probably be 3 months old now I will leave a picture down below if anyone can confirm he is not a pullet. The other one has no sign of a comb yet but she insists they are both pullets. (I will also mention I don’t think the lady spent too much time with her chickens because the “pullet” in suspect had zero feathers on his back and only 1 tail feather when we got him.

The main one I am not sure about is Amethyst the Barred. “She” seems very stand offish and is always chasing some of our bigger chickens around. She also is always fighting with the Lavender from above. She is always showing she’s is dominant. Idk if that is a sign because our Frizzle (we got was advertised as a pullet and we got her 2 months ago and she hasn’t started turning red or anything and she is 4 months) also chases Amethyst and both Lavenders. So I think that the chasing the Barred does might just be her being a chicken. Although idk if this is an actual thing but when I was looking at pictures of Barred roosters they all seemed to be white with black stripes while the females were black with white stripes, idk if there is actually an correlation between that and the gender but that is what I noticed. Amethyst seems to be more white with black stripes.

You are correct that barred males are whiter than their female counterparts, so I do think your barred is a girl, just a bossy one. 🤣

With the Lavender Orpingtons it could just be that one is more mature than the other. It may start to lay sooner than the one that doesn't have as much comb and wattle growth. There's nothing explicit that's pointing to it being a cockerel at the moment, but keep an eye out for long, very skinny, pointed feathers coming in just above the tail. Also, on its neck the feathers will start to grow in very skinny, long and pointed. At the moment they still look wide and rounded but Orpingtons are a slower maturing breed so just keep an eye on it. Hopefully someone with more Orpington experience can give you a timeframe of when you should see those changes.

Here's my bantam cockerel at 13 weeks old (keeping in mind bantams do mature faster than larger breeds) and you can see his roostery feathers coming through on his neck and just above his tail:

I will continue to keep an eye on her thanks! Also thank you I was not sure about the Barred! Bantams definitely mature quicker 😂 our main Rooster is a Bantam and by 12 weeks he was crowing and had splotches on the wings and hackle feathers! It was very obvious he was a roo, again thank you so much!
