Wow such nice eggs. I have 2 welsummer chicks coming from Meyers Hatchery in about 2 weeks. What makes the difference between the speckled brown eggs and the solid dark brown eggs? Is it the breeding or how you are feeding?

no differences, but its a matter of preferences like we do such as buff and barred colors, which one do we like?

some egg colors are from breedings and trying for the darkest colors. some will produce more speckles than others but to me, I prefer smooth, speckless dark eggs. Others prefer the speckles. I got Welsummers that lay both speckled and non speckled eggs.

With a warning, with chicks coming from Meyers, sometimes you will not get the ideal egg color that you are expecting from the hatchery so I want you to be aware of it. I've heard alot of people were disappointed with hatchery Welsummers and rather stick with the "real mcCoys" of Welsummers by going to a breeder.

Welsummer594, those are beautiful eggs! I agree with you that some people prefer the speckled and some the solid brown...have to say I am one of the latter. (wish you lived in Canada)
