These are from my Welsumers (all gone now), these are industrial birds, I purchased at Ideal, yet their eggs are darker than many I have seen posted here.

Excellent color, and a great recommendation for hatchery birds! I wonder if they still carry the same strain of birds, and their quality is the same? If I may ask, When did you purchase your birds from them, and why dont you have them anymore? Those eggs are wonderful!
Recently the Ideal Welsummers weren't all cracked up to be and they didnt do good breeding programs. The eggs were lighter, not the terra cotta eggs we expected. Had a friend that bought MANY Welsummers from Ideal and had to sell ALL of them because none of them even had close to the terra cotta eggs, just light brown eggs like Barred Rocks and RIR;s. Disappointing! So Pipermark was very lucky to get some Welsummers that laid that dark of eggs.
Your bet bet is to go to a reputable breeder that knows of Welsummers and breeds for correct egg color.

Thanks,
I have a couple of hatchery welsummers from the feedstore, and I was going to get a rooster and some hens from sue kolbo of Rivergait Ranch here in N. Cali but I think I offended her, as she quit corresponding with me about the birds, so I dropped it too. I know she had a beautiful flock with nice birds, I would have been proud to have some of her stock? I dont know if it was cause I mentioned BYC or wanting hens with free roo, too pushy I guess? I would really love to have some good quality Welsummers though, it's just hard to know who to trust?
I have two pullets, Anna and Pietrnella. Don't ask me which is which! I'm not completely sure I got pics of two different ones here! (Edited-ah yes, the bottom two pictures are of the same bird!)
