Could Dumor feed be made by purina and then just packaged differently?

We use DuMor feed and our chickens love it. They eat it faster than the feed we had been giving them. I have seen posts on BYC of individuals with coupons for DuMor feed. I can't find the coupons anywhere. Can anyone advise where these coupons can be found? Tractor Supply does not list them on their website and I have searched all over DuMor's site and didn't find any.

We have also learned that Tractor Supply will no longer be carrying DuMor effective January 2012.

I hope this is only a rumor and not reality. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks.

I toured a pet food manufacturing facility when I was completing my BS degree in business. They manufactured a name brand dog food but they also manufactured numerous generic and store brand dog foods. The ingredient formulas varied to different degrees depending on who's brand they were making. So even if Purina is making Dumor it's not necessarily the same feed.

Interesting. I refuse to buy feed from TSC due to all the moldy feed and the shoddy way they seem to respond to customer's valid complaints about it. Dumor is usually the brand that is the one being complained about. Not sure if it's the way they store it or what, but moldy feed can kill birds faster than about anything and it's not always apparent that there is mold till you are through part of the bag.

DuMor is made for TSC at a Purina plant, by Purina. No if, ands or buts about it. It isn't a secret. The "formula" as given on the bag, is ever so slightly different.

At this juncture, both the house brand DuMor and Purina branded feeds are too rich for my blood. Even with the occasional coupon, here or there. I've stopped buying either.

I work at our local TSC and DUMOR is definitely made by Purina. If you read the nutrient label on each bag you will see varying percentages for each brand. Plus, Purina Startena is medicated and DUMOR does not make a medicated chick or layer feed. Dumor is generally slightly cheaper than Purina bc of the difference in the percentages on the labels. Purina makes a lot of different feeds that range in price bc of the nutrient labels. Purina does have a larger selection of poultry feeds than Dumor. We just started carrying a layer feed that has extra Omega 3 so the hens eggs are higher in Omega 3 fatty acids. It's expensive though and it is only a 40lb bag. I personally use the Dumor myself bc it is more affordable and I can always add extra nutrients for my birds with what I raise in my garden. I also don't believe in giving medicated feed if the bird does not need it, especially the chick starter.

I am with you, I would never get feed from TSC I wont even buy supplies there.
I cant see what is all that great about Purina or Dumor feed I would rather feed Buckeye Feed which to me is a far better feed, cheaper in price and contains animal protein.
