I would nominate you for educator, but you already have that titleany other questions just place them here and P.M...
you dont need an ameraucana for this project, infact I would say an Ameraucana will set you back some generations because they lay blue eggs and when you cross it to a brown egg layer you will only be diluting the brown color a bit, so if you already have an EE hen that lays greenish eggs you can start with that, and cross it to a dark egger or a R.I.R or brown egger..., breeding for this trait is quite easy, just keep breeding back to the brown egger and keep an eye for pea comb birds, cull the single combed ones(they have 95% chance of laying brown eggs)
blue egger mated to another blue egger will produce more blue eggers.. you need the polygenic(many genes) brown egg shell trait mixed with the blue egg gene to produce green eggersif you breed Easter Eggers with pea combs who lay blue eggs to other EE's with pea combs who lay blue eggs, will you have any chance of hatching out a pullet who will grow up to lay green eggs? Or is it necessary to have brown egg genes mixed with the blue to create green?
Let me make sure I'm reading this correctly.you dont need an ameraucana for this project, infact I would say an Ameraucana will set you back some generations because they lay blue eggs and when you cross it to a brown egg layer you will only be diluting the brown color a bit, so if you already have an EE hen that lays greenish eggs you can start with that, and cross it to a dark egger or a R.I.R or brown egger..., breeding for this trait is quite easy, just keep breeding back to the brown egger and keep an eye for pea comb birds, cull the single combed ones(they have 95% chance of laying brown eggs)
how about SuperDuper Educator?...I would nominate you for educator, but you already have that title![]()
thats correct when you cross your EE to your BO any pea combed hen will lay green eggs, you can keep the best looking ones(the ones that look like BO more than EE) and breed her back to BO and keep the pea comb ones, they will lay green eggs and look like BO hens....Let me make sure I'm reading this correctly.
I have a pea-combed EE that lays green eggs. My roo is a BO. Any peacombed offspring should lay green eggs?
Also, do you have any resources you recommend for understanding chicken genetics? You obviously know your stuff and I really would love to read up on it.
