Could green eggs "breed true"?

I thought I'd ask the whole community on this one, since no one where I am seems to know...

If you're attempting to create a breed or particular strain of a breed of chicken, is it possible to select for green eggs? Meaning, breed chickens with the blue egg gene who lay eggs that are towards the greener end of the spectrum? I'm thinking of this as a variation on the chocolate brown layers, only for blue eggers. I understand that the green color usually comes from the blue egg color mixed with brown, and that the inside of the egg will still be blueish. Would the breed always be like Easter Eggers in that they might throw pink, blue, white, or brown eggs? Could this green egg project be done by breeding a specific Ameraucana strain?

Hope this makes sense to someone

yes green eggers can breed true, aslong as you have the blue and brown egg genes(polygenic trait) on its pure form(homozygous) you will not get pink or white eggs

you dont need an ameraucana for this project, infact I would say an Ameraucana will set you back some generations because they lay blue eggs and when you cross it to a brown egg layer you will only be diluting the brown color a bit, so if you already have an EE hen that lays greenish eggs you can start with that, and cross it to a dark egger or a R.I.R or brown egger..., breeding for this trait is quite easy, just keep breeding back to the brown egger and keep an eye for pea comb birds, cull the single combed ones(they have 95% chance of laying brown eggs)

Nicalandia - how does the comb affect colour? I've been trying to figure that out, but haven't had any luck.

the Blue gene is tightly closed to the Pea comb gene by 4 centimorgan distance(anything more than 25 will segregate independently), this means they dont segregate independently, so as soon as you spot a pea comb chick(out of the EE or ameraucana mother) this chicks has 95% chance of laying a green egg(if it was a hen)

Thanks! That is very informative :D

95% of green egg though? What about blue? All of my EEs lay blue eggs. I've never yet had a green egg, though my NN are from parents who laid green eggs, and all three girls have pea combs. Good chances, yes? :)

if you cross your Blue eggers to a brown eggers you will have 95% chance that all of your pea comb birds will lay green eggs as the green egg color polygenic trait(many genes) and blue egg gene are dominant over the white egg gene, if your NN were hatch from green eggs and they have pea combs then yest.. very good chances 95%

So no chance of the cross laying blue eggs if crossed to a brown layer?

Thanks again for your help.
