I have this black sexlink/ austrolorp something like that that started one day couldn't walk. She is around 5 years not sure. I caged her, and gave her some stuff in her water. After a couple days she began to get better, being able to prop herself up and after a while starting to stand . She never lost her appetite through it all. It took her probably from start to finish 2 weeks to get over it. I didn't think it was mareks, after she was better was released back.

About 6 months later same thing happened, I gave her this stuff in the water, it was just some stuff they had at the feed store for chickens, swine, and calves. She got better this time also.

Now it's about 2 months later and I am wondering what it was?? I did have another chicken with similar problems that got better in about a week.

Here's a story about her taking in chicks.

I am really hoping I can keep her, as I am getting rid of most of the hens and starting with chicks. she was a really good hen. I would like to see if she will take my future guinea keets. She was being mean to the others so I threw her out of the pen and was going to let her free range. She was out for about 2-3 weeks. Then she was gone.I figured she had a nest or something got her, as I live in the country. one day I was in the loafing shed and I found her with 16 eggs!! Non were fertilized since she had not been in with the rooster very much. Anyway, I needed 7 more chicks to make 24. I thought I would give it a try putting them under her. I didn't know when she started sitting. By the time I got the chicks she had been off the nest for 2 days. I thought I would give it a try. She was making sounds like she was calling for chicks, so I thought that was a good sign she would take them. I put her in a cage, with the chicks, watching closely to mKe sure she wasn't going to attack them. She hadn't done anything for about 10 minutes so I though I would leave for a little while. Anyway when I came back she had them under her wings, as if they were he babies!! That was so nice not having to raise them. She was a good mama, not letting the 2 x-hatchery polish in the house for night. Eventually they would get in. she never really chased her chicks/pullets away when they got big enough to leave. They were by her side till they were at least 12 weeks. She lives with them and still sort of calls them for food if they were still chicks.

Also, should I vaccinate my guinea keets for mareks??
