Could scaly leg mites cause limping?

She isn't really doing better. And now we're not sure that it is scaly leg mites that are causing the problem. She can still get around but not very well and we have her separated from the others. She still eats ok. I will get pictures later today.

We're going to watch her for another day or two and try to help her get better but if she's still not recovering we don't want her to suffer so we're going to put her down.

And if it is mareks or what some of the other chickens had she will just keep getting worse and we don't want her to go through that.

Update: I just went out to check her and get some pictures and she was up and walking around. She was still limping but she seemed better. Yesterday she was laying down and not moving so this is a big improvement.

Heres more pictures.

I did look at the skin on her neck and it is really bumpy and dry looking. I know Mareks can affect birds skin so now I'm wondering if that's what this is...

I took her outside for a bit and she seemed to enjoy that.

If it is Mareks it could wipe your entire flock out. I would take her to a vet for diagnosis. I have a Dark Brahma (not that color matters) that has poor feet and skin qualities.

Yeah. I've already lost a few to something, quite possibly Mareks.

A vet isn't really an option right now, I could do a necropsy if she does die but I did that for one of the other ones and it didn't go very well.

Does your Brahmas skin look similar to the picture I posted?

Hello,

I have a hen who just started limping and I'm not sure why. I looked at her feet and she does have raised scales so I put Vaseline on her legs to kill scaly leg mites in case she has those. I couldn't find anything else wrong with her. I did feel her legs and her leg joint seemed to bother her a little but I didn't see any signs of injury. She kinda of runs when she moves and then lays on the ground for a bit and does it again. But she can get around to eat and drink.

She's also missing most of her tail feathers and a lot of her wing feathers where I drew the red line in the picture. I'm not sure why. It could be the other chickens picking on her, but I don't think they would pick off that many feathers. It looks like when you clip a chickens wings but we have not done that recently.

Five or so birds have already died from what I'm guessing was mareks, but not for a few months. She is a Light Brahma and shes about a year old.

A vet is not an option right now.

Thanks for any help, I can take pictures and a video if that would be helpful.
Yes, Scaly leg mites can cause your chicken to limp.

From what I can tell she doesn’t look to have bumble foot. That’s why I asked to send a picture of the bottom of her feet.

mine looks a little different. I took her to my vet and he felt it was an immunity issue. We put her on antibiotics for 6 weeks. She did heal but I think overall she isn’t a healthy chicken. The is small for a Brahma , slow to mature ( laid at 13 months) , poor skin but I don’t think she is jeopardizing the Heath of my others in their coop.

yes my $20 chick had a $250 bill
