Hatcheries have pure chicks unless stated otherwise, that being said it doesn't mean they are going to be good looking birds. I would say her is a cuckoo OEGB.

I'm not a real big OEG fanatic, but I think at least in the U.S. the colors are called Barred and Crele. The Barred is straight black and white and the bird is pretty compact. The Crele is much more exotic, with softer edges to the barring (more cuckoo) and it has a good deal of gold on its head and body. They really are a very beautiful bird.
You're absolutely right about the quality of the representatives of the breed, sometimes it is hard to recognize them as the breed they are reputed to be. Then again, once in a while you get some that are really very nice.
It's a craps shoot, there's just no way of knowing what you'll get.
By golly you're right! Ya know unless you're really into breed and showing.............you just don't really know for sure. Beats me. I think the little roo is cute, but not purebred and I hope it doesn't upset the owner. I remember when I first got into chickens, I had some mixed or at least really bad quality OEGB and was trying to find out what they were. It's always a little disheartening to hear that your birds are not show stock and really special, but I got over it and went on and got my show birds. You've just got to go look in the obvious places.........breeders and exhibitors. Read, read, read, research, research, research, I LOVE the Internet.
You can find the answer to almost anything, and you find almost anything on the Net.
I don't know his breed, but I just heard some "come here boy" cackles coming from my hen house, they must be looking on BYC's too! LOL! He's handsome!!
