Could something like this be converted into a duck house?

Just wondering if this kind of outdoors playhouse could be adapted, into a duck house. I was imagining using hardware cloth on the windows, felt on the roof and creating bolts on the door-
I want no chance of a predator getting in at night, we have rats and foxes around here, aside from that we don't really have any other predators that I'm worried about. Their house will be placed inside of their pen.

I was originally going to build one from scratch but it's taking so long I think I'd rather go down this route if possible.
Criticism and advice welcome!!!

Looks nice. Hard to comment on the build quality beyond what we can see in the product reviews. I'd be pretty skeptical it would hold up in my environment without some serious modifications ($$), but Wyoming can be a pretty hostile environment too, so you may have more luck there. Seems like a decent amount of people are using it for their rabbits.

Hardware cloth on the windows sounds good, and yeah the reviews mention a leaky roof and a door that blows open in the wind, so those would be fixes you'll have to make as well. Additionally, I read one of the reviews mention there wasn't a floor. Would you plan to add anything there? Something to consider at least. Don't want to drop a nice chunk on that then have a fox dig right under anyways.

There's two versions- one with a wooden floor and one without- the reviews are mixed but I would get the one with the floor-

What specifically would worry you in your environment? In the UK weather is fairly mild- it would be mostly sheltered by rain but I would waterproof the lid anyway- The only danger I can think of is the odd storm and wind

Initially I considered a dog kennel, but all I've seen have been either extremely poor quality or extremely expensive, I could get something like this for a similar price

The wind would be my biggest concern. The wind gets absolutely disgusting here. I really could sit here and complain about it all day, but I'll just say I've seen many a blown-over playhouses.

Other than the weather, and assuming the floor is decent, I do wonder about the door. How it sits in the frame, and whether or not it shuts tight from top to bottom, is something I'd worry about. And how it'll work if/when the floor gets wet and expands. If the door's too flimsy, or the fit isn't great, it probably wouldn't be too hard for a predator to pull on the bottom and wedge its way in. Doesn't sound like you have an extensive list of predators that could do that, but I wouldn't put it past a fox. I would probably put a lock/bolt on the very bottom of the door depending on how it looked/felt all put together.

Yeah, just keep in mind what you'll be paying in modifications. The felt for the roof, securing the door, hardware cloth for the windows, paint/varnish if you want to make the wood last longer, and any other upgrade you need to make. I would try and source those costs before making a final decision. I don't know how easy it is for you to find recycled materials to cut down on costs, but I wouldn't be able to make a second coop for my drakes without doing so. Everything is expensive these days!

I don’t see why not, it’s basically just a small shed. Like others mentioned ya never know with quality but if you are even some what of a handy person tweaks could be made to make it work.

It’s super cute! If you end up going that route you need to share pics!
