So yest. I went outside to see if I had any eggs (I have 2 chickens), I had one in the nest box, so I went to the run to give them some cheerios, well I noticed an egg in the run which im assuming it was from our white chicken, shes never laid an egg in the run befoe but sometimes she like to lay an egg on the poop board (which I clean everyday) our other chicken always lays in the next box, but anyway so I notice the white one is sorta squating while she walks, then out comes an egg with NO shell, just a really thick clear coating, but within seconds the 2 chickens and rooster eat it up!!!! Im not really concerned about the shell-less egg, ive read that it happens and this is the 1st time that I know of. I got 2 eggs yest. so im assuming the shell-less one was just an accident. But my question has anyone had this happen to them which then lead to the chickens eating their own eggs after? Im just wondering if now that they know what it taste like they will start to eat them

Thanks

Mine will also gobble up any broken eggs that hit the ground - soft or hard shell - but they do not eat eggs in the nest. I do try and pick up any shell, but I do grind up egg shells and feed them back to the chickens

I do not know what causes a hen to start breaking and eating the eggs.

Well I didnt get any yest. which is normal, seems like they go like 5-6 days laying then a day off. But then I only got 1 today, so dont know if maybe she ate it or maybe ill get one 1st thing in the morning. So I guess ill just have to give a few days to def. know if shes starting to eat them/hers. Thanks for the reply

Mine will eat soft shelled eggs, but will not touch eggs with shells.
