So in school I’m writing a report about chickens and I was thinking “where is a good place to hear people’s favorite chicken facts and get more information?” Backyard Chickens! So please tell me whatever you can of the following: how many total chicken breeds you think there are? And what are your favorite chicken facts- would love to hear them!

Haha me neither.. all I know is “hundreds” but I want to see what numbers others think of!

World wide? Easily over 500 varieties of chickens.. with more being made. As for my favorite chicken facts.. I would have to think on that one~

This isn't a "fact" that I'm aware of....but an observation. I always thought the wedding "chicken dance" (or in my youth performed on roller skates at the roller rink - when those existed) was something completely made up. One day I watched my roo take down a preying mantis and OMG...THE CHICKEN DANCE!!! Complete with a happy rhythmic clucking/chirping to match the dance moves.

Do a Google search on 'number of chicken breeds' - clink on the Wikipedia link that appears. They list chicken breeds by country of origin - then factor in the many varieties within most breeds

Chicken fact: they look like baby Raptors. They are their relatives.

One of my favorite facts is that chickens have REM sleep (I believe it's called?) which is the same thing in our brain that allows us to dream. So your chickens can dream! Wonder what they dream about.....
Mother hens also talk to their eggs before they hatch so that the chicks learn her voice before they hatch.
