Something I've noticed is that some post things that may not be appropriate for younger members of our wonderful site. Some general guidelines should be kept to and followed. I'm sad to admit I've made this mistake myself.
  1. Curse words should be avoided. Things like this are not permitted on the site and should be reported within reason. Words that are okay to use in sense of a situation, such as hell, are okay in my eyes.
  2. Jokes about serious topics that could be offensive should not be posted. Consider how many are on this site and that we don't allow offensive things based on race, ethnicity, etc. A lot of people who have had different experiences are here and we have to consider everyone.
  3. Dark humor or rude rumor. Similar to previous guideline, death and other topics that have been joked about, should not be joked about. Keep this to yourself, as to not offend someone.
  4. Keep opinions to yourself, unless it is asked for. You don't need to bring someone down, for the sake of it. If it is advice, then you should give it. But saying to someone new, your run doesn't look right. Without context or advice or even just putting it like that is a mean thing to do.
  5. If someone gives bad advice, gently correct them instead of sparking an argument. I have been helped multiple times by a person correcting advice that I'd given that was wrong.
One thing I cannot stress enough is that we have to be considerate of younger members.

Thanks for reading and anyone with more advice post below.

There are Do's and Don't in the terms agreement, but not everyone even reads those or may not know they exist. https://www.backyardchickens.com/help/terms
I'm sorry that you have experienced problems or encountered some conflict.
Anytime that you feel that something is not appropriate you can report it by using the "report" link at the bottom of each post.

If a thread is started, that is an invite for opinion, suggestions or comments. Sometimes people don't realize they are coming across harsh - so that should be taken into consideration as well, but again, if it's inappropriate, then report it.
