Could you please tell me the breed is he a leghorn?

    Hi all,
    could you tell me what breed this chick is and if he is indeed the boy we think he is! He is 5 weeks old and I wasn't expecting him to be white!!

    He looks a lot like our basic white leghorns. Whether it's a He or a She, though, is beyond me.

    Cockerel

    Are the dark spots in the feathers dirt or actual dark spots on the feathers?

    Seems a bit heavy to me for a leghorn.

    Way too chunky to be a 5 week old Leghorn. Possibly a White Rock.

    Lol yeah he is massive!! Yeah the dark spots are actual feathers

    This is the female I got.

    We got some eggs and hatched them out at the school I work at, all I was told when I got two was that the brown ones where girls and the yellow ones, male. So I have no idea if all the eggs where from the same hen??

    Sounds like you have sex link chicks. That explains the darker feathers on his 'shoulders'. She will lay LOTS of eggs!

    That's really helpful and makes loads of sense. I think he is a red sex-linked cockerel. :) Now to research raising a cockerel :)
