Great job everyobody. It's great to hear everyone getting a little more self-sufficient. Im sorry about the job losses. It seams to be so more of that lately. My hubby was down to four days and they had to lay a guy off and finall this summer got back up to 5. But, with winter on the way, things are not stable.
I have been collecting all my seeds; arugula, peppers, tomatoes, dill, basil, oregano, and more. I've also been canning up the ying yang. We haven't been buying much to can either. We're in apple country and with all the new development plans on hold, there are orchards not being maintained and we're raiding them along with other folks. It's sad to see them all go to waste. A neighbor has a pear tree they never pick, so we got the OK to grab them and the story goes on and on.
There are so many people that don't know there is food outside the grocery story

They just aren't trained to think that way. We grew up on a farm and learned early where food comes from and it ain't Safeway!!
I like an earlier post about planting things that produce. I did blueberries, and black cherry trees this year...a quince is yummy and beautiful.
I wouldn't be very well-off with my chickens though. The little banties lay eggs the size of a quarter and they only lay for like 4 months out of the year!!!! We need to get serious in that dept. Thanks for all the advice! Keep it coming.
