Countdown to Baby Chicks 2023 edition

They are quiet? All the googling I did about them said they were loud…I would have ordered one last year!
Mine are extremely quiet. They are from Ideal Poultry. I don't clip wings and they stay in our yard and are great foragers. I did cancel Welsummers from my order twice because I kept reading they were so loud. Lol. I guess it partly depends on the individual bird.

I'm trying to hatch a couple silver spitzhaubens. I added them to my egg order just because they reminded me of the brabanters I love so much.☺️

Um. Yeah. Welsummers are loud. If she doesn’t quiet down by spring (hoping just juvenile/beginning layer orneryness), we may have to have her live at the family farm. Our village says chickens are ok as long as no one takes a complaint to the board about you. I am trying very hard to not annoy anyone. The price of eggs is making everyone very acceptable.

Another hatcher here. Placed an order from Meyer Hatchery last week. The eggs will be shipped April 11 so I'm guessing I'll set them around April 14-16 depending on arrival date with a hatch date around May 5-7.

In addition to 18 chicken hatching eggs from Meyers, I'm also hoping to get 12 hookbill duck eggs from Ducksmom (though we may hatch those out sooner or later depending on when she has eggs available). The chicken eggs will be:
3 Black Sumatra
3 Blue Andalusian
2 Black Copper Marans
2 Light Brown Leghorns
2 Black Australorp
2 Buckeye
2 Rhode Island Reds
1 Barred Plymouth Rock
1 Welsummer

Ordered from meyers, hatch date 27 march
Before it gets too hot here

1 meal maker
1 salmon favorelle
2 welsummer
2 speckled sussex
2 black copper marans
2 adopt me straight run ( its how i ended up woth the 1welsummer so figured roll the dice )
Forgot also have a broody egger sitting on 3 eggs
1 golden sebright x blue australorp
1 golden sebright x olive egger
1 golden sebright x easter egger

Waiting to see if @Hip Hillbilly Farm is gonna order any more chicks this year…😂
I have an incubator in my Amazon cart. I am thinking that would be the way to go. We have lost, umm, three, so that is not very much room. I am enamored with frizzle chickens. I have one, Flippy, and me thinks he needs a friend and a mate (so that's two there). Of course, the frizzle thingy ain't guaranteed. I'd sure hate to be hatching trying to get more frizzle and wind up with all smooth. A frizzle brahma would be the bees knees.

So, yeah, there will be more, just no plans to "order" at this point.

I got em!

they didn't make it on the truck from the distribution center to my little local post office, so I had to make the drive to the big city to get them before work.

everyone survived transit!

after a little fiddling with the height of the heat light to get them comfy I went to work. my partner sent me a few videos confirming that I got it right lol

they are eating and drinking and seem happy

10 Americanas from hoovers. there is a bit of variation in fluff color which I am very happy about.

Well I have been going back and forth telling myself that I didn't need to spend almost $200 on Orpington chicks, but then I kept coming back to this thread. So I caved to peer pressure and the chick fever that is ever so rampant on BYC..... I now have 3 Isabel Orpington and 4 mystery Orpington chicks arriving from Papa's Poultry that came highly recommended by other Orpington lovers on here (tennative ship date for this spring).
