Countdown to Baby Chicks 2023 edition

okay guys I guess I am being a complete worry wart but I need some reassurance because I am stressing myself out! 😭

as y’all know, this is my first experience ordering chicks, so of course I’m nervous… but today was hatch day for mine and the expected delivery date says Thursday!! Isn’t that too long for them?? Won’t they be weak and starving by the time I get them? I am so scared they will not all make it. I would be devastated to find dead or nearly-dead chicks in the box 😥
They usually show delivery dates later than they actually show up. Be ready for a call tomorrow or Wednesday!

How far away is the hatchery? I range between 300-800 miles from the hatcheries I have used and they were all here in 2 days. I live 30 minutes away from the USPS distribution center so that helps. I never trust the "delivery" date as it's always 3 days. Track the package but again sometimes it doesn't scan or get updated so it's still showing at the original point but in reality it has already landed in state. Don't stress. It's out of your hands. Have the brooder set up with warm water and warm food (I provide a warm mash to get more water in them and warm them up from the inside out). I'm always amazed how much they drink right out of the box. Warm water will help warm them up. Get to the PO bright and early Weds, most open at 8. Crank up the heater full blast and they should be fine.

we are about 600 miles away from the hatchery, and walking distance from our post office. I am hoping for the best 🤞🤞🤞🤞 my brooder has been set up since yesterday. Thank you all for the replies, I feel a lot less nervous about it

8 little chicks arrived this afternoon!!!! All happy and healthy, and adorable! My little rooster has got some curled toes, but hopefully we will be able to fix that with some paper tape… or if y’all have any suggestions that have worked for you I would love to hear them
