Progress continues. The littles walked up the ramp into the coop for the first time yesterday. As they were settling in on their roost for the night, they both let me stroke them.

I have an EE w/ a reddening comb and an Australorp with a very red comb. I didn’t know about the laying down thing. Anything else to look for? Is this your first go around?
Other things to look for:

- curiosity about nest boxes. If you use nest box bedding, not just nest pads, you might see them digging away. My EE built little nests around herself of the hemp bedding before she started laying. Playing house, I think. 💕

- lots more vocalization and restlessness

If you haven’t already, start providing oyster shell now. My girls prefer flaked (available on Amazon) to the more common chunks. You can leave them on chick or all-flock feed, which is generally higher protein, as long as you provide shell.

My Buff Orpington hatched on April 28th and is a month older than yours and she still hasn't laid yet.

So I'm gonna say Barracuda, the EE, will lay first. My guess is September 25th.

Lilac the Buff Orpington will lay on . . . October 13th.
Just to update things here, my BO started laying just to prove me wrong of course, lol. She just turned 5 months on the 28th of September. I'll keep my guess the same though because your BO's comb and wattles are still a bit pale. I'll get a picture of mine for reference in a bit.
