Weekly update photo. Week 17. This was taken in the shade if that makes a difference to anyone keeping track with me.

Picture update 18 weeks, 2 days. Things are looking a little redder. I'm still hoping for eggs before the end of October.

Of the 2 hens I have, only the barred rock is laying consistently. The sex-linked has been raggedly for a few months. She's 2 1/2 which I've read is pretty average age for decline for the variety. She'll lose feathers, then start to grow them back only to lose others elsewhere. She'll lay maybe 2 eggs per week and more often than not, they'll have soft shells and mess up the nest box.

Anyway, here's Barracuda and Lilac at 18 weeks .

Little over 19 weeks old.
Looks like maybe Barracuda is going to lay before lilac but with her base color naturally darker 🤷‍♀️

20 week update pictures. Plus a note that either one of the littles is close or McDiver is finally getting ready to start laying again ( it's been months) as someone has dug out a nest on the floor of the coop.

I lost track of this thread . . . they are looking beautiful. I have several breeds that are between 15 and 19 weeks old and not a single egg from the whole lot. I did get a few bantam eggs over two weeks and nothing since. I might have to do nest hunt soon.

Twenty-and-a-half weeks. I think we're getting close. I'm so excited, I could be a Pointer Sister. 👩‍🎤

I cleaned out and put fresh straw in both nesting boxes today. I also put straw in the little igloo shaped hut I built over the summer from some very long thornless rose canes near the duck's pool. BSW - my scatterer - immediately decided it was a better idea to have that straw all over the ground in front of the shelter. Sorry, McDiver.

We have an egg!
I didn't see it being laid so I cannot attest to who it was but it's pink, so I'm thinking Barracuda. Maybe?

There was a pink one two days ago as well. Black Sunday White might've taken the day off as I'm only getting about 5 eggs a week from her now that the weather is cooling off. Even though it was pink and a bit smaller, it never clicked in my head that it wasn't hers. Today, she laid in one box and this beautiful little, much anticipated gem was in the other. 🥰

Thanks everyone for entertaining me with your guesses and replies. 👍 I'm counting the first egg as being the 23rd of October. IF it was indeed the EE, Barracuda, congratulations to @Esc_Quaily who guessed she'd lay on the 21st. 🏆OTOH, if it was the BO, Lilac, the trophy and bragging rights goes to @Not-so Slick Chicken who guessed the 28th for her (and we'll not count half off for guessing Barracuda would be first 🤣)

Now to figure out for certain who it was. 😉

My birds totally planted that egg so I could win.

In all seriousness, my guesses were based on when my pullets of similar breeds had their first eggs
