Weekly update photo. Week 17. This was taken in the shade if that makes a difference to anyone keeping track with me.

Picture update 18 weeks, 2 days. Things are looking a little redder. I'm still hoping for eggs before the end of October.

Of the 2 hens I have, only the barred rock is laying consistently. The sex-linked has been raggedly for a few months. She's 2 1/2 which I've read is pretty average age for decline for the variety. She'll lose feathers, then start to grow them back only to lose others elsewhere. She'll lay maybe 2 eggs per week and more often than not, they'll have soft shells and mess up the nest box.

Anyway, here's Barracuda and Lilac at 18 weeks .

Little over 19 weeks old.
Looks like maybe Barracuda is going to lay before lilac but with her base color naturally darker 🤷‍♀️

20 week update pictures. Plus a note that either one of the littles is close or McDiver is finally getting ready to start laying again ( it's been months) as someone has dug out a nest on the floor of the coop.

I lost track of this thread . . . they are looking beautiful. I have several breeds that are between 15 and 19 weeks old and not a single egg from the whole lot. I did get a few bantam eggs over two weeks and nothing since. I might have to do nest hunt soon.

Twenty-and-a-half weeks. I think we're getting close. I'm so excited, I could be a Pointer Sister. 👩‍🎤

I cleaned out and put fresh straw in both nesting boxes today. I also put straw in the little igloo shaped hut I built over the summer from some very long thornless rose canes near the duck's pool. BSW - my scatterer - immediately decided it was a better idea to have that straw all over the ground in front of the shelter. Sorry, McDiver.
