I am getting mine at the end of April!!!

That sucks. I have a bad feeling about these. That's why I went in only expecting to get 6 and then when I realized I wasn't going to be picking them, I upped it. Last year I did the whole laying them on their backs in my hand and only picking the ones who instantly went still. (I wasn't expecting it to work so well). I just hope

that at least 6 out of 11 are girls this time.

Yes, I do believe they have changed there policy. I know our TSC changed half way thru last years Chick Season. We were taken back by it too becasue we have had good luck picking pullets our from roos. Our first batch we picked out we got 2 roos and 7pullets which I think is pretty good. Then our second batch that the employees picked we got 5 roos and 3pullets.

At your tractor supply, did they change their policy where the employees can only get the chicks out of the bin?

I was a little taken back yesterday when I got mine because I didn't get to actually pick my chicks. Last year when I got 6 blk australorps from TSC I was able to handle and pick my six, ended up with 5 girls and 1 boy. I don't think my odds will be that good this time. Oh and my chicks are so quite too. They are barely making a chirp, just sleeping eating and pooping. Hubby was trying to tell me they were being loud last night and wanted me to get them out of the livingroom and out of the house... I wonder if they understood him? lol.

I got to pick my own out .. but there was a pen (horse pannels all the way arround them .) and i think i only got to pick them because the guy didnt want the job of chasing them around lol .. =) ( he complained about gettin them for the last guy earlier that day and how fast they were lol ) =p so yeah .. i got all pulets (sexed .. yeah ..) except the partridge rocks .. they are st run .. so hopefully they are girly .. ( i honestly picked them based off size fluffyness and markings .. haha they were the cutest four i caught first .. haha =p ) but i think the policy is for them to pick them up .. probably because of ppl letting their kids reach in and handle and stress the chicks .. then not buyin them .. ?? ( there was a min order of 6 at my tsc) i usually get around those things though .. im friends with the owners at our local feed stores and i groom the managers dog at dickey bubs =) so i get to pick my own chickies =) and family centre is still letting you pick your own too ( they dont start theirs for another 2 or 3 weeks .. lol its bad i know when everywhere will have chicks !! lol .. oohh i need to go ask the pet shop that sells them when hes gettin some .. hahah im horrible ..

here a couple pics of the three types i got =) ( no clue what the yellow ones are .. ) they were in the "red pullets" bin .. lol .. the darker ones .. have pea/rose combs . all of them are pullets as well ... the all looked something liek the one in the back .. and the redish ones are partridge rock (strun ) so .. 6 glw 2 yellow 4 pr =) ( one of each in the pics .. )

these three are Kyra (front) the pr siren is yellow and kinzy is the wyandotte
