Couple of Pullets keep “flying the coop”

It must be that age. I think mine would be close to POL but I’m not sure they will since it’s November.

My unscientific theory is that their hormones are telling them to seek out good nesting sites so they get restless and start to wander.
 
Years ago I had a Black Australorp hen that would stay in the pen until she laid her egg and then she would fly over the fence for the remainder of the day. She always flew back into the pen at dusk to roost with her flock mates in the coop. That was one free spirited and intelligent ole hen. And she died of old age which was quite amazing given the many predators stirring about.
