The first time I did it it was 2.5 over, so 67% reading was actually 65%. Pretty dang close!

Be interesting to see how different it is this time.

Now I'm thinking I need to upgrade and get all that fancy humidity control stuff.

The auto humidity control really spoils you! The large air cells are from being ruptured during shipping and changing your humidity won't make them better. Upping your humidity will just drown your chicks. My eggs had huge air cells and the chicks hatched with no problems.
GOOD LUCK!

Not ruptured air cells, those would be small air cell ,but more than one cell......the older a egg get the larger the air cell, reason u can float test eggs for freshness

You candle them before you set them?

I'm still new to this, what would I look for? Just an overly large air sac?

The one that has the unusually huge one is still developing, I could see the embryo moving. It seems smaller than the rest though considering lockdown is in 4 days...

yes candle eggs i receive, large air cell old eggs, broken air cell, more than one, also check yolk not broken.

Now you have your incubating, low humidity will cause large air cell too. .put more air surface on water area,

The air cell get larger as the egg get older, faster with higher temps.

I float test some i got off ebay, they floated which mean they were 4 or more weeks old....YES GOT A REFUND.

I've got to get some sleep. I keep reading these threads and keep worrying about my humidity. I have it at 45 for my chicken eggs and 55 for my ducks eggs. I hope that is about right. The 55 worked good last year for my ducks. This is the first time I've hatched chickens.

45% during incubation and 65% for lockdown is what I aim for. All my hatches have been good thus far.

Hygrometer done calibrating. It read 70%, should have been 75% so I am just 5 under. It must just be a lot drier this time of year or something for me to have such a hard time keeping humidity up.

Must just have been a ruptured air cell. I sure hope the little guy makes it!!!
