Well, I have studied all the cheap and high end possibilities of quail cage design. Here is what I have some up with that I will try (with coturnix

1/2 X 1/2 inch x 4 feet METAL hardware cloth for the bottom. 30 inches off the ground. The same hardware cloth 1 foot up the sides as well. 7 feet high "plastic" bird netting for sides and top. 3 strands of electric fence around the WHOLE pen starting at the TOP of the metal hardware cloth and the bottom strand will be about 6 inches below the bottom of the pen. The fence wire will set 1 1/2 inches from the metal wire to keep rats from going between the fence and hardware cloth. and the hardware cloth will be grounded so it acts as a ground for the fence.
