Coyote 0 Sheldon Won Woo Hoo

Okay, let me clarify this! My dogs chase the deer off our "yard" where my house is located. We live on over 6 acres, 3 cleared, rest heavily wooded. The dogs don't allow the deer in the cleared yards. When I first married my DH, his dogs would chase the deer for miles on their own! Animal control came and told DH to keep the dogs up as the neighbors were tired of their howling (well so was I!!). They have their fenced dog yard... They stay in the yard now, but they will chase off deer, rabbits to the property line which, my front yard. It is funny to see a big dog stop at the tree line, and the rabbit run off. Evidently the "deer" that I thought the dogs were barking at was not deer, but the coyotes.... Personally I am more afraid of being ran over by a deer, than attacked by a coyote!!

If a deer hunter is close enough to shoot my dogs, they are close enough to be arrested! It would mean they are hunting in my woods, or my front or back yards, which we do not allow! The woods are too close to our house.

We used to have six deer (does) that lived in our woods, they would come to our fish pond to drink. The deer would eat our flowers and my garden on the side of our house. We had not seen them in the past year, then we started finding hunting arrows in the back field. Two weeks ago, we saw three of the six does in our back yard, and it was a happy sight! My dogs are older, and I guess we have trained them to stay in our yard. Medic and Jake did not chase the coyote as much as they followed the same route the coyotes went and the boys kept marking the trees along the path.... Also, we have Barred Owls that have a nest in the Ball Cypress that is about 50 feet from our deck! We have Cooper hawks that live in the neighbor's woods. We have Red tail hawks that live in the woods by our barn. We have lost probably six chickens to the coyotes......We do not use any pesticides on our property, due to the wildlife that we do have.

Our neighbors hunt in their own woods, and that is just fine with me.

It's okay. It seems like a misunderstanding. When you said 'chase the deer for miles', it sounded like the dogs were running them well out of your yard! Best wishes to you.

Well it was true 6 yrs ago, I have had all the males neutered, that helped a lot of the running around!!
