Coyote hanging around

We live with a few miles of a huge chunk of state land so it's normal to see the occasional coyote or javelina. It's just strange that he is hanging around. How to do you identify or find a coyote den? I've never had to look for one before and if I do manage to find it is there anything I can do other than fill it in to get them to leave? I haven't see any other coyotes just the one so far definitely don't want more showing up lol

I have been told that they really only use dens when raising pups and otherwise are on the move or just bed down in the brush. I'm not sure if this is accurate or not

When I walk the dogs in the field near our house there are lots of big holes in the ground, holes big enough to roll a soccer ball down. I figure a big animal has to make the big holes and for us it's either a badger den or coyote den or holes from badgers and coyotes digging up smaller critters to make a meal. I fill them in. I roll rocks down them. Again, I don't know if this is really doing anything, but I figure if their "safe" home is disturbed and no longer "safe" they will move on. I hope so anyway.

If there really is only one then it's probably one that got the boot from his family and is now on his own until he can collect some girls and start his own family pack. If this is the case he's probably hungry and looking for an easy meal since he doesn't have a pack to hunt with. This is speculation though, just because you only see one doesn't mean there aren't more. Most of the times I hear them I hear many, but most of the times I actually see them I only see one.

Living with wildlife is a delicate balance. Good luck. I hope he doesn't cause problems for you. I'd keep your flock on lock down for some time.

I know my husband would dispatch it if it's legal and comes in our yard but what do you do with it after is dead? We don't have anywhere to bury it.

Animal control should be able to guide you on that too. I'd imagine there's a way they prefer you to dispose of it other than sending it to the dump.

Some farmers would say to string it to the fence as a warning to the rest.

A call to AC will give you the best answer on what they do in your area.
If the coyotes are feeding in the garbage, yours or neighbors, think before you cut off that food supply. If they can't find their regular easy meal it may prompt them to find another source. Since there's no way they don't know your animals are there, it would make it a tempting meal.

My neighbor has a couple of coyote dens by his property. He was being overrun by them and hired a fellow to get rid of him. He lives in Tampa during the week and comes up here, near Ocala on the weekends. He lives on a dead end road and I live on a dead end road. There is a right-of-way next to my property and most every night I see predators mostly coyotes and fox and occasional possum, coon and bobcat. It's like having a predator interstate. I rarely see them during the day, mostly I see them at night on one of my game cameras.

Unless it's hunting season for coyotes, they will tell you how to live with them. At least that is how it is where I am.

I live in AZ so coyote hunting season is all year long. My husband and it just need to get our hunting permits...still can find the rules in discharging a firearm on our property... Pretty sure the neighborhood wouldn't call the cops since I have seen them shooting birds in their yard lol and we live outside of city limits

This is in the middle of the day around the same time every day. There must be a food source somewhere I have seen 4 Hawks circling today by where the coyote sun baths so I am going over to talk to the neighbors after work Soo what is going on in their yard...or their neighbors yard( the have junk everywhere)
