Drag off a toddler?? When was the last time that happened?
Sorry, but coyotes typically prey on small mammals, rodents, reptiles, and the occasional small dog or cat. (Chicken if they can get to it easily.) Trash is ok, and they even eat fruits and vegs.
They don't really hunt in packs like wolves, but more often solitary. They are opportunistic animals, taking what is easiest, that takes least amount energy expenditure. If it's difficult they move on. (So a predator proof coop will deter them.)
They are usually shy and retiring, so the fact that it was lounging in your driveway is worrisome because that's pretty bold. Such behavior would make me worry about rabies... I'd be careful because of that, not because it would take my toddler.
We have several that patrol our home. I heard one last night in the brush, probably 50 ft away. I'm certain they've check our coop more than once, but they can't get in!
