Coyote proble

I disagree with those that would shoot first and ask questions after. Your first step is to make sure you birds are locked down tight at night since dusk to dawn are prime hunting times for most predators, especially coyotes. Second keep an eye out for them to see if they are stalking your property-- a game cam is good for this. Finally, as long as they aren't bothering you the best thing is to leave them alone. Coyotes are very territorial and will keep others of their species out, as long as the ones in your area aren't into livestock they will keep any out that would be. Once you remove them you can't be sure what kind of problem animals will fill the vacuum--and more will move in. This. BTW, is the advice of most Fish and Game people. I have a pair of big Eastern coyotes that hunt the area around my place on a regular basis--see the video at http://jimmortensen.com/ --and they have yet to cause a problem but I am wary. They never bothered my neighbors sheep/lambs either.

Just remember, that coyotes don't just come out at night. Its true most hunt at night, but they are becoming more brazen and bold.If you know coyotes are around be very careful with small children and pets. There is no shortage of documeted attacks on pets and children by coyotes in broad daylight...!
They are sneaky, cunning and deadly....personally, if i saw any to close to my livestock, house or yard....i'd get rid of them...Off in the distance is one thing, but when they get up close and personal, they have crossed the line...IMO

you dont have to wipe them out just control numbers so they r less tempted to come close to find food and hunt in the wild like they r designed to do

I see coyotes out hunting during daylight hours all the time.

If you have some 'yotes around your place they may never bother your chickens or they could kill every one of them tomorrow. Only one thing is certain. Dead coyotes don't kill chickens.

Your absolutelty right HALC, dead coyotes don't kill chickens. It's nice to think one can co-exist with nature, and in many cases this is very true. However , coyotes who decide its easier hunting/pickings nearer to humans, are a dangerous menace..! They all don't act the same, meaning, they can very well attack you as well as your pets, children or livestock.Just like they did to that Canadian woman, a young aspiring singer, killed by coyotes while taking a walking in a park..There are to many of them and there range is spreading fast and wide. They need to be culled and controled,They love the fringes of big towns and cities, little dogs and cats are easy picking's...They must be controled...!

once you figger out the right set to use they are not that hard to trap I use steel traps every now and then someone will catch a pup and offer it as proof that yotes can be caged ,steel traps are much faster/easier to catch them. google flat set or dirt hole set they both work well . Oh yea yote pelts make nice rugs

they are nuisance animals here we kill them year round without limits you need to check your game/furbearer laws!

The way the coyote population is growing, a few folks could likely make a tidy profit from yote furs..I think though , that wearing fur is kinda out of style, isn't it...? I like the idea of coyote rugs though..

Once you get rid of the Coyote another one will take its place ---- its just a mater of time.

Well, thats alright...each coyote pelt will add to someones rug..as long as people keep getting rid of them, it all helps protecting family, pets and livestock...Can't get rid of them all, just control the numbers...
