I have a yote problem... as in it is not afraid to hang out at my house. There is a young coyote that comes and sits in my pasture and watches my small dogs in the morning. he is not afraid of the 3 large dogs in the yard. the other day he was stalking my small dogs so I stalked him back and shot and missed. my bad must be rusty. figured he would not come back for a while, but noooo here he is again the next morning out in the pasture not a care in the world. grrrrrr...... I cant shoot him down here as backdrop is the road.
Today I hear one of the dogs barking go out front and look and here is coyote, luring my crippled lab off into the woods!! My lab has 3 bad legs and he spotted the coyote coming down the drive headed for the chickens and he did his best to chase him off, coyote got to the edge of the woods and turned to "play" with the lab, when I was outside he was bowing and jumping around like a puppy and then would turn and trot towards the woods trying to get Jake to follow. Jake isnt stupid though, I ran and got the .223 and my other half grabbed it and ran towards them keeping cover between them, the coyote did not see him but He missed when he shot, the lab was between the two and he was worried he might hit him. he shot again at the yote on the run but missed.
Good dog Jake for keeping him away from the chickens...bad job on us for missing him yet again!!! I know he would have killed my old dog in the woods, he is easy to knock over. But war is on...I will get him one way or the other. he is not going to snatch a chicken or a dog. I will sit out there every morning and wait for him if I have to...

They can sure be a problem, Dh and I are tied at two apiece for last year. If you don't have a safe field of fire from the house, but do from other parts of your property you might ask around at some of the local fishing/hunting stores and see if anybody would like to come out and get him for you. My cousin used to do that on the weekends, he moved to E. WA or I'd give you his number since he was living in the Monroe/Snohomish area.

My woods were alive with their crying this morning also. I haven't had time to asses as to whether or not I lost any stock. They usually are very wary of the henny I keep on my pasture.

Dang it!! does he have any hunting friends left here? lol.

I know my miss was cause I ran up the hill and was still huffing when I pulled the trigger...I took a big breath and I am sure I pulled up when I did. I have a bipod on it so will find a good rest, take my time and get him next time. going to target practice to see where I am shooting. been a long time since I shot.
I have 13 acres and houses on two sides, and the road out front. rest is all woods or hills. DH is in law enforcement so always makes sure we know about back drop.

I wish I was in an area where I could shoot the bastards. I live in Urban Orange County and had a family of three wipe out my laying flock over two nights. Good luck and shoot one for me while youre at it.

You can't even shoot a .22 where you live? Shorts are fairly quiet to begin with, (though they won't cycle in some autoloaders), and a baby bottle nipple pressed over the end of the barrel muffles it even more.

I heard three seperate packs howling this morning as I was feeding my chicks at 5 AM. Growing up, we didn't have coyotes, but that has changed and they are here in a big way. I knew we had them but apparently they are more populated than I thought. I've been warned about predators by my neighbors since I moved here a month ago and I can see that I will have to have a very fortified coop and run.
