Coyote.

They say to have larger male dogs pee around the perimeter to deter coyotes. I did this when I first moved in(I have german shepherds). The coyotes are around but stay more towards the prairie path they use to travel

We have coyotes all the time. Actually got one on our game cam last night walking in front of our coop they have got a few of our hens/ducks . We keep it all locked up at night however ours do free range during the day. I would keep an eye out as the will take if the situation is good for them to snatch and run. I keep my front door open, my gun on me (my personal opinion on safety, not everyones )and keep dogs close. My dogs go nuts when they get close and I've had to chase off a few times.

Just be aware. They will (99% of the time) stay away from you..but if its really hungry or rabid it will not be afraid of you... if you see one yell, clap, stomp feet, through rocks at feet, anything to make yourself known and it should just run off. Be careful and always use best judgement.. I keep my gun for protection from larger pray animals as we live deep in the woods way out of town. It would take over an hour for help to arrive so I take a few extra precautions.

Sorry for long post.. we'v had recent attacks and neighbors just lost about half the flock yesterday so I'm a little coyote nuts right now.

Dogs will help, but to get rid of coyotes,,, this sounds horrible but works,,,, shoot one or more and hang it on the fence/s (where it/they came onto your place). It must hang in an unnatural position, from a tree, on a bush, on the fence (this is whats preferred by those that do this). IF you just let it lay there the others will eat it.
This is also not permanent, it will keep them away for about 3 years. I have seen it many times, it works.
Good luck!

Our state pays you $50 for each dead coyote you bring them. They brought them here to control the deer population and now we are overrun by them and the state is trying to fix the problem by paying hunters to kill them any day and any time of the day or night the whole year long. They have killed so many of the calves at Black Crest Farms my neighbor's place he even put donkeys in the fields to protect them. They are an excellent alarm system. I hear them every night almost at the same time every night!. I have lost cats to them but no chickens as yet.
