Coyotes-I TOLD you they were vicious!

I have a pack of yotes where I live. Have only seen one run across the field by my house but they wake me up in the summer all the time. I got a varmit rifle and will shoot them if I see them. I have a kennel full of dogs that cost way more than any yote is worth. I have had several full sized deer carcasses scattered around my yard after the yotes killed and ate them too. I'm all for nature, but my animals and my families well being is far more important. and now that I'm getting chickens - all the more reason to remove them.

..."Thorburn said coyotes also are common around Whistler, hunting in packs and targeting pets. A lot of people can’t leave their cats out,” he said. They make a nice little meal for a coyote

Just a comment. We have coyotes. Lots of them. See and hear them almost every day. Sometimes in our fields. We also have, or have had, goats, cattle, chickens, peacocks, geese, ducks, dogs, cats, sheep and hogs. We have lived here for over 30 years. In all that time we have had zero losses to the coyotes. Once I thought they had killed a goose but it turned out the other geese had. I do wish they would get the peacocks though. People here have not invaded the coyote's habitat to the point that they do not have natural food. That is the difference I think. Starving critters of whatever species get desperate.

Previous postings-----------75 - 80# coyote. I have never ever seen a coyote that danged big.

Most of'em don't even go 30#.

It makes me wonder about the whole wolf thing sometimes.
At the family place, my daughter went over to take care of the neighbors horses. She was inside the barn and heard them howling outside. She stayed in the barn until she thought they were gone. She came out and the prints outside in the snow were HUGE.
But maybe some places have godzilla coyotes.

We've got coyotes all over the place here, and I've never seen one that was over 50 lbs., though I've seen some big boys running around. I live on a farm and late last summer I was walking the back of the farm about an hour after the sun went down and came across three of them on a trail. They circled me for a minute or so, and I had a long steel fence tightener in my hand. I was just waiting for one of them to come at me, but they backed off and disappeared. I can see them going after a child or small woman though.

People need to remember the old saying... anything with teeth can bite, anything with legs can kick. Becoming complacent and trusting wild animals, even fully trusting 100% domesticated animals is foolish. My old horse is as broke, calm and trustworthy as an equine can get. That does not mean I let my three year old into a stall alone with him.

Coyotes are predators, plain and simple, whether starving or well feed if they see an opportunity for food they will go for it … adult, child, big dog, small dog, big horse, little horse, chickens. If they get the chance they will kill it for food. That’s what they do.

When the coyotes cross with dogs and they do the result can be a much bigger critter! We had one here for years and there was difinitely dog in him and he was close to 70lbs! They are also very bold.He and I squared off a couple of times til he finally vanished!
