Coyotes in the Daytime

I live in a rural area and we are now seeing coyotes outside during daylight hours, not while we were outside but from a window. I had intended to let my chickens roam anytime we are home but they're still small and when they are out, stay very close to the coop. My rooster is an adult and goes to roost very early. He seems to be very wise and I was pleased to see him so watchful yesterday. At one point he put out a warning call and the girls bolted back to the coop in a flash!
Protection is the biggest reason I got a rooster but I don't want to lose any if I can avoid it. The coyote was seen with a baby rabbit so definitely going after easy prey. My coop is very secure but what sort of deterrents can I use for coyotes during the day? Am I going to have to train a dog? One of mine roams and the other would chase the chickens. I'm thinking about electronic fences again for the one. We used to have one but it got disconnected.
Thanks!

Perimeter fence, especially when hot, with dogs inside are like magic repellent for coyotes. Keeping chickens inside will be tough but they will at least have refuge if chicken chasing dog can be trained out of habit. Chickens will have little trouble distinguishing between coyotes and dogs especially once a flock mate is lost or they can a close call.
