Cracked Duck Eggs... Drakes?

:lau "hobbits" lmao.. made me laugh so much. It is true though with how many meals hobbits are known to have :gig.
Yes I read about everyone battling foxes, raccoons, snakes, eagles etc and I think I could not even deal with any of that... I would be a nervous wreck, not to mention I couldnt have my duck babies just running about my back section with as little issues as I do.
Hedgehogs though are like in my top favourite as far as animals go, so it pains me to be angry at one (or a bunch).
My alpha duckie girl "Kitten" has hid a nest in the flax and by my calculations whatever eggs are still living they are due early next week. Kitten is a real A-hole tho, she is the bossiest, loudest most opinionated duck I have ever seen so I'm not too worried about her babies... I could imagine her quacking violently at the hedgehogs and just rolling them out of there .
:gig Quacking Violently and Rolling them out of there that I'd love to see! That would be so cool to have hedge hogs as wild life but they would be eaten by our big predators so I guess that's why they aren't here. lol

Aww you make it sound like an oasis in your yard. Ducks and babies just running around care free!

Only the lil egg crackers to worry about.
Sounds idyllic doesn't it :love

So in New Zealand, there are not flying predators either? No snakes? I guess in my mind I was thinking it would be similar to Australia where there are all kinds of spooky scary predators!

New Zealand has no native land mammals, so all mammalian predators are introduced. This includes the hedgehogs, which are highly problematic predators of native birds. We have no land snakes. Avian predators are about, but are more of a problem in rural areas than the cities. Rats and dogs are the most likely predators in town.
Australian wildlife is entirely different. It takes more courage to appreciate its beauty!

Thank you for the education. I had no idea about any of this.:goodpost:

Yes here in New Zealand we are blessed to live such a safe environment. Kiwibird is correct the only native mammal we have is a bat, all of the rest of our native wildlife are birds and big insects. The biggest threat to my baby ducks are cats, I also help run a cat rescue so this makes it interesting. The cats though are scared of my big ducks so they dont bother.
It does make for cute pictures though.
