Keep us posted! I'll keep my fingers crossed for that Lav Orp baby

I hope it works. None of my cracked or chipped shipped eggs that I tried to repair ever hatched.

Many years ago (like 1999, I think), I had a nest of wild mallards under the boxwood by my front porch. When they were about halfway through the incubation, something killed the mother during the early morning hours. I found the nest like 7:30 in the morning, with the dead duck out in my lawn.

The eggs were still slightly warm, so it hadn't been too long. Two of the eight eggs were cracked completely around the middle, fine cracks, nothing oozing. I just covered them with scotch tape, and put all 8 into my old, unreliable foam incubator. About 2 weeks later, all 8 hatched, and I released them into the wild when they were about 3 months old and could fly well.

So, a cracked egg CAN develop, at least once in a while. But, I guess I just had beginner's luck. All I've gotten since then have been stink bombs.

I cracked an egg shortly into incubation with some chicken eggs, by dropping another egg onto it. It had a much larger dent than your egg. Anyway, I used a small strip of clear packing tape to cover the hole so it didn't dry out the egg, and it developed just fine. In fact, it hatched today! The egg that was dropped was toast though, leaked instantly, meaning the membrane was breached. I'd say go for it. Keep an eye on it, candle for life, and when you do, give it a sniff too, to make sure it isn't going bad. When lockdown came, I removed the tape so it didn't interfere with hatching.

I was sort of reluctant to post this update as I am still sad about what happened to that egg. In short, it was a fully formed chicken inside but she didn't make it. But I think its my fault. After 23 days, I decided to open and discovered a fully formed Lavender orpington dead

I think she may have tried getting out of the egg through that crack area but couldn't because somebody forgot to take the tape off:rant:he

That's the only explanation I can come up with ... I had 4 hatched out and they are looking great, but would have had 5! Oh well, wish I could give ya'll a better news, but instead crud .. 2 other formed about 90% but didn't make it .. (I am not sure if I drowned them with extra humidity?) AH .. I have no clue what went wrong
