cracked eggs?

I was getting dents in my eggs from hitting the wood. I put down some pink plastic mailing foam. No dents since. Soem people use artificial turf or even an old door mat. Cut it the size of the box and they can't move it even if they scratch out all the nesting material.

careful, it can lead to egg eating, i let it go and now have an darn terrible time stopping them eating my eggs. Its almost like they know the shell is compromised, dont want it to "develop" so sabotage it.

Not styrofoam. Not rubber foam. Heavy plastic foam for cushioning mail packages. It is a tough sheet 1/2 inch thick that they can't even scratch, much less eat.

Yea that is what I do not want to happen. I know about when they lay now, so I just try to get down there before they are left too long.

once they are cracked, they do tend to peck at them. you can even put down a carpet scrap or bath mat and toss when it gets funky. that's why I use the plastic foam. does not absorb moisture. and I had it on hand.
