Cracked or whole corn

I plan on supplementing my chickens diet with some corn this winter. Is there a difference between whole and cracked corn? Any preferences?

Cracked corn. Leave whole corn for the big farm animals.

Use whole corn with any birds over 1 lb. Make certain adequate grit in diet. Whole stores nutrients better and can be swallowed by 4 week old chicks with ease.
