Craigslist chicken breed and gender

It is definitely very likely that she is going through the last stages of a molt as one of my birds is still finishing up hers so it is that time of year here. She also may have been in crowded conditions before (not sure, it sounds like she came from a farm where the owners were letting birds reproduce randomly). She is really really pretty and not as rough as the photos make her look (she sticks her tail up a lot, someone said that is usually an EE trait so I wonder if she is EE and Houdan or one of the other V shaped comb birds). The person I got her from said that the farmer they got her from said she would lay blue eggs.

ees aren't the only breed that holds their tail very upright. mediterranean breeds do too, and anconas are a mediterranean breed. I don't see anything at all that says Ee in her background.

Ah, I see that is true. Supposedly her original owners said she laid blue eggs, which made me think EE (the anconas and most breeds that might have given her that v comb lay white eggs).

I've actually noticed that the majority of them that aren't production bred (crossed with leghorns and such, typically from the hatcheries) actually have a much more relaxed tail set like the Ameraucanas. The few pictures I've been able to find of Quechua (the bird all of them originated from), they also have a low tail set.

Also solves the breed question! I had no doubt that was a girl, I have to admit I'm surprised to see a green egg, though! So she is an EE mix!

The person I bought her from said her previous owners said she laid "blue" eggs. It is a green/blue color but is different from my other EE egg (who also laid yesterday, and the day before that and no one else can be laying that color). I have seen some sources (wikipedia mostly) that say that "some" Ancona chickens have a blue tint to their egg colors but all the pictures I find are white. She certainly doesn't look like any other EE mix I have seen.
I am happy to have another non-brown egg layer and she certainly is pretty. We shall see how well she lays though. I have more that enough eggs though for our family.

She has laid an egg every day for the past three days (but not in the nest box, just in the coop the little weirdo). So if she is as old as she looks she is an awesome layer!

So glad I took a chance on this pretty little mutt.

Shes pretty regardless of what breed she is! I would love to see some new pics of her after a few months of good feed, good care, and clean overall conditions. I have a feeling poor conditions may have lead to her rough look.
