I love these stories! I have one of my own, too.
I posted Roosters for Sale on Craigs List, $5 each. I was very specific about the age ranges, breed, general location, and that the purchaser(s) would have to bring their own containers, as I had none to provide. I had a man e-mail me wanting to know how many I had (15). He wanted all of them, but asked if we could meet him halfway between his house and ours at an exit off the interstate. I told him no, if he wanted them he had to come to our home, as I had no way to transport 15 roosters at one time - even if I did, I wasn't going to consider trying to swap 15 agitated roosters from one vehicle to another in a parking lot!
We finally arranged a time that he would come and get them. My DH was home to help get them from the brooder we had contained them in. An unfamiliar car slowly crawled past our driveway, and turned around, stopping at the mailbox. DH and I looked at each other - could that be our buyer? Indeed, it was. A man in a late-model Lexus got out, and introduced himself. We asked him if he had crates for the roosters, and he opened the trunk - that was where he wanted us to help him put the roosters.
Well - I wasn't entirely thrilled with this - but DH and I were both working insane hours, and had no time to process the roosters for ourselves. We had the man stay at the car, making sure the roosters didn't escape as we grabbed them and put them in his trunk. He paid us, but before he left he asked if he could also have a hen. I looked at DH in disbelief; he couldn't put one poor hen in the trunk with all those roosters! No, he agreed - she would ride in the care with him. He opened up the back seat, we put her back there, and he drove off.
I can only imagine his hour-long ride home with an uncontained, unhappy hen in the back seat - and the mess that had to be in the trunk when he finally got to his destination.
