Craigslist Goats Ad

I see nothing wrong with his ad whatsoever. People who love their animals and need to rehome them often care about what happens to them.

When I needed to rehome our horses, I specified that they neede ground work, someone who is willing to train them and ride them and be humane to them. I THOUGHT I had found the perfect home. SAHM with two kids that were currently taking riding lessons, and they had a trainer and farrier lined up. They have 5 acres and a 4 stall barn. They hired a couple that does transporting of horses for a living. The transport showed up on time, got the horses in the trailer and we waited. The couple never showed up or returned my calls. I told the transport people they could keep them if they like and they said ok, if they don't show up at our place we will keep them.

Well, apparently the couple DID show up. One week later I received a call from the Yucaipa sheriff telling me that the transport people STOLE the horses from the couple that adopted them from us. The story was that the couple dropped the horses off at a boarding spot that is not manned daily and there were two other horses there that were very sick, under nourished and had bad foot problems. The gal that adopted the horses made the report that they were stolen.

I told the police that if they were dropped off there and not being cared for, they were NOT stolen as I had told that transport couple they could have them. I told the police tell that gal is SOL. I was sooo angry.

Sorry for the rant, but I completley understand where this guy is coming from.

If he were closer I would take them to eat the Kudzu around here. We have 47 acres of pasture, but it's not fenced well enough for goats. I would alos worry that they will be the unfortunate guests at someone's BBQ! There's lot's of folks around Bama that love to eat goats!

I think this guy is a very good owner. We require a written and signed contract when we rescue/foster/adopt out kittens. We always require that they give us an update at least once a year, and if they cannot keep them anymore, that they can come back here. We did the same thing with our chickens. When they get old and stop laying, the owner can bring them back here.

It would be fine. My fence for my NDs and pygmies is about 4' farm fence and they've never gotten out. And believe me, if my ND wethers could get out, they would! His NDs look small compared to mine-----but mine may not be the best example of the breed.

The seller/owner can certainly screen potential buyers/owners but to sign a contract to allow for visitations? A bit wacky... Just find good people to take the goats and ask if it is ok to stop by to visit some time. Asking for a reasonable fee will also ensure that someone is not looking to resell the goats or make a quick profit. The fee can always be donated to local shelters or rescues.

The seller can request to be contacted if the goats are no longer wanted or if it does not work out. We ask that dogs be returned to the rescue if they don't work out. We have rehomed several that did not work out after adoption.
