Crash video.... Opinions?

Let's see if I understand this correctly.

- The policeman was on his way to an emergency call (which might very well entail his being shot at, injured by crazed people high on something, have him see horrible things that will haunt him forever, or perhaps die).
- He had his lights on the whole time (lights which are painfully bright and obnoxiously apparent).
- He had his sirens on part of the time (also VERY apparent unless you are on the phone or have the radio on too loud).
- He approached this guy from behind down a long, straight road with clear visibility for a while.
- The passenger car did not pull over (which is the law in MOST places).
- When the policeman passed the car (which did not pull over to get out of his way as he responded to an emergency), the car then turned in front of him causing the police car to run into the house. The car turned over a double yellow, also illegal.

From what I can see the passenger car should be charged with failure to yield, damage to city property and damage to that house. Perhaps also assault on a police officer.

The real question is why you are so determined to make the cop out to be the bad guy Rebel. I know firemen and policement generally disrespect each other, but you seem pretty bent on bad mouthing the cop. Why? Seems like given the problems you have driving the fire truck that you would want the passenger reprimanded for the laws they broke. Next time it could be your fire truck that gets hit.

Either way, I am going to pull for the police car or the fire truck every time. What if it was your house burning down or your loved one killed because the proper authorities couldn't get there? There is a reason that the yield laws and move over laws are in place. They protect us all.

I agree CityGirlintheCountry, Some of the people that are against the cop wouldn't want to hear "Sorry I'd been hear sooner to stop you from being raped or shot, but I had to follow a car for 2 miles that wouldn't pull over".

The report released by the crash analysis reconstruction team said that the driver of the other car was to blame in the crash. Clyde Allen Rizzutto, 65, of Tigard will be cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, according to Jim Wolf with the Tigard Police Department.

I would be glad nobody was hurt and I would expect somebody to pay to fix the house. I would also still think it was the other driver's fault. I live on one of the main roads that go out of our small town. Emergency vehicles go by here often. I expect people to get out of their way.

It is not illegal to turn over a double yellow line. It is only illegal to pass.

If the driver should have seen the police officer's light, then the officer should have seen the turn signal, after all the turn signal was right ahead, not in a mirror.

While I'm not saying the cop is wrong, I'm also not saying that the other driver was right. I think there is plenty of blame to go around.

The police officer went through a red light and three stop signs without even slowing down; he also crossed the center line several times on a street with no cars parked on it, and a clear straight line. To me, the officer doesn't seem to be in full control of his car.

The other driver should have seen the cop, but cop was going very fast. And he should have pulled over.

I think there is plenty of blame. I also think if it was my house that had been destroyed, and I viewed that video, I would be POed. I wonder if outcome would have been different the man had been sleeping in the living room, as usual, instead of gone. The cop would have killed him then.

It is not us V/S them. I have worked with them for years. I have messed up a few time running calls an I was the first one to bring it up an own up to it. One of which almost killed me.
If I wanted to vilify cops I would have posted a video that was one sided. There are plenty. Im not anti cop, I'm anti anyone that drives like this cause they have lights on there roof.

This guy has tunnel vision an is blowing threw intersections with out his siren on. then he starts to blow by this car that has given no sign that he has seen him. Every indication is that he is going to make that left turn.
The cop failed to keep control of his car, hit a member of the public an drove his car in to a house. He saw the car an could see what he was doing. The other car should have seen him an yielded but there is no indication that he ever saw him.

Everyone keeps saying he cant turn across double yellows? Show me that law. I have to just to turn in my driveway.

If the cop was not there it looks like a legal turn to me.
