The office DID have the siren on, going thru the intersection light. The office does not blow thru any stop sign intersection on S. Walnut Street.
From the moment the office turned down South Walnut Street, the tail lights of the car that turned in front of the office can clearly be seen.
Had the driver of the car looked in the review mirror emergency lights would have been seen.
The driver of the car was paying NO attention his surroundings. As the officer gets closer, the car in front brakes. The officer moves over into the other lane. Still the driver pays NO attention.
The officer did not hit a member of the public - a member of the public turned in front of a right of way vehicle.
Not seeing the emergency vehicle is not a defense, as a driver you are to be aware of your surroundings.
I am not so sure that the officers siren was not on the whole time, and that the tv station did not mute out the high pitch sounds, so the reporter could talk over the tape just before the crash you can hear the siren again.
And no, I dont think the officer turned the siren on as he was crashing.
