Hello chickenlittle32!!!!!
Will you eventually be offering more Mille Fleur Cochin eggs?!?! As much as I REALLY WANT them, I didn't have the heart to outbid BeccaOH during the last few minutes(smile). Congrats, Becca....I think you won them!!!!
Kathy

That was super nice of you!

Thanks,Quail_Antwerp!!!!
I just know what it's like to lose an auction during the last minute or last few seconds.......I never want to be that "brutal"(even when it comes to chickens.....smile). I figure I can always wait for the next available auction.

oh I'm in so much trouble...I'm buying at 1588 with egg turner...

How many eggs to they hold again? I'll use my homemade bator as a hatcher I think

SO excited!

Depends.... With a turner in it ? It will hold less than what it would without.

What I use to do before I got a sportsman is I used eggs cartons and then turned the whole incubator side to side (by placing something under one side) I think I was able to fit another 10-20 eggs that way

That worked great.

OR you could fill it and then turn by hand (kinda a pain in the butt) but im sure you could jam a crap load in that way. LoL.

CONGRATS !!!!

Hello aclee!!!!
I really think you'll love the 1588!!!! And, yea....you could be in trouble(LOL)!!!! With the turner it'll hold 42 eggs.....I also put some eggs in the spaces on the sides and hand-turned them 3x a day. Without the turner I've fit as many as 50 eggs....it all depends upon the size of the eggs. Your homemade bator should work fine as a hatcher....as long as it holds the temp/humidity correctly.
Happy Hatching!!!

I just turned off 3 bators and said I wasn't turning them back on for several weeks

so got to fit all eggs into just the 2 not off yet
Do as I do with a bator-they will hold about 80 eggs if you don't use a turner then when you candle them remove the clears and with shipped eggs that may or may not get you to the newer turner 41 eggs or my old great ones hold 48 but if you still have too many then just buy another bator and fill that one as well

My husband is buying it for me as our anniversary present. I told him if he couldn't think of what he wanted, I could think of a few more things to add

I think it will hold about 42...that sounds right. That seems fine to me. Then I can date them with the "move to hatcher" date in pencil, and as I candle and get rid of some, or move them to the hatcher, I can add more. I think it will keep me plenty busy. I better figure out when all the swaps are in my area because I'm clearly going to have some chicks to sell!

Edit to add...scratch ALL that. Building inspector came and said I have to get rid of my chickens. I am going to fight it, but I'm done buying eggs for a while!

Is your house currently under remodeling? Why would the building inspector say you have to get rid of your chickens? That doesn't make sense. I would fight it tooth and nail if I were you. It would break my heart if I was told that I had to get rid of my birds. I'd move before I would do that!!! But that's me. What is the whole situation? I've heard of city inspectors saying no birds, but not a building inspector. Do they have issues with you rearing chicks inside the house? Maybe you could move your brooders outside? Just trying to think up some solutions so you don't lose your birds.
