Well..........I have no way of weighing them but full grown their bigger around than my hands are and I have long fingers. From the eidn of my middle finger to the end of the palm of my hand it's 7" long. Their bigger around than that. They are a good size. Did you have all yours in the same pen? I put up to 5 hens per roo in a cage. The only issue i've had was with my BW's. I had a hen that wasf very aggressive. She was a foot pecker. I debeaked her and that stopped. I also keep all my quails beaks and nails trimmed now. The JB's are so much calmer than the bw's are anyway. They won't even jump up out of the cage while i'm tending to them.how large are your jumbos? live weight or dressed. i've got some jumbo cross eggs in the hatcher from my own birds, but had some issues with hens killing roosters, so i just set what eggs i had and put everyone inthe freezer. so i know how large my crossed ones were at least.
I just hatched 4/6 of these yesterday & last night. GORGEOUS BABIESI've also got 6 sizzle eggs up for auction Bid starting at $10, Shipping $13.00 Right now I have 2 laying. Pricilla the paint frizzled hen and the partridge soft sizzle or Elvis the black frizzled hen. I'm not quite sure which one it is. I have a Paint roo in with her. Rightn ow I"m waiting for a teacher from pre-k to come for a home visit before my grandson can go to school so i'll try to get pics up when he leaves which will be about an hour. These eggs will sip out on monday as the ones I have now are already taken. I'll add any extras I get to your box.

Neither of the paints have many black spots but they do have some. You can see a few in the pics.
Quote: ok, well size wise i think that sounds about like mine... and i had 4 hens to 1 roo. the problem was i lost my old roo (huge tumor on his side) and from then on they wouldn't allow any other roos in the cage... so i would grab one girl, toss her into a new cage with the roo, he'd do his thing for about 5 minutes before she'd start chasing him again. then they'd both go back to their cages. little while later, repeat with another girl (leg banded for ID). i did this over a period of about 5 days, set all the eggs i got, and put them all in the freezer. 8 of the eggs were fertile and hatched for me today. 3 gold 5 brown. and i do have one gold roo still going from my last hatch (special needs charity case LOL) so depending how they grow, i will probably put him with the hens. the roo that was used for breeding wasn't as large as spincycle, tho the hens were huge. so hopefully that and an infusion of new blood will get my quail going again.
All my quail pens have hens from my stock and roos from somebody elses stock so the chicks from each pen won't be related. I have 1 pen that I got a roo from my stock and the hens from somebody elses stock. I only kept the largest birds for breeding. The closer related the smaller the birds get, I hear.ok, well size wise i think that sounds about like mine... and i had 4 hens to 1 roo. the problem was i lost my old roo (huge tumor on his side) and from then on they wouldn't allow any other roos in the cage... so i would grab one girl, toss her into a new cage with the roo, he'd do his thing for about 5 minutes before she'd start chasing him again. then they'd both go back to their cages. little while later, repeat with another girl (leg banded for ID). i did this over a period of about 5 days, set all the eggs i got, and put them all in the freezer. 8 of the eggs were fertile and hatched for me today. 3 gold 5 brown. and i do have one gold roo still going from my last hatch (special needs charity case LOL) so depending how they grow, i will probably put him with the hens. the roo that was used for breeding wasn't as large as spincycle, tho the hens were huge. so hopefully that and an infusion of new blood will get my quail going again.
that would depend how you select your breeders. if you have 3 relatively unrelated pens, you could do a rotational line breeding with them for more than 10 generations and still maintain enough separation in the lines to ensure fertility and hatchability, and still increase size slightly between each generation. All my quail pens have hens from my stock and roos from somebody elses stock so the chicks from each pen won't be related. I had a last min. order cancel, so I thought I would give this thread a try. Eggs will ship as soon as paypal payment is made. Up for auction is 18+ Greenfire Swedish Flower Hens hatching eggs. All my chickens have been selected because of their unique color patterns and personality. I will pay special attention in packing the eggs. I ship the freshest eggs possible and package them sufficiently with bubble wrap. $15 for shipping, bidding starts at $15 (I have crested and non-crested mixed together.) Most people have been hatching at least 50% crested. Auction ends tomorrow at 9:03am.
I have some jumbo browns from her I dont have a scale but the boys I have are a bit trimmer being little horn dogs but the hens are nice and plump and I to have to hold them with both hands and I got some big hands being almost 6 feet tallWell..........I have no way of weighing them but full grown their bigger around than my hands are and I have long fingers.
