I have a broody hen who has 3 babies. Last night I was in the pen and she was just chilled with her babies. She is a great mom to her babies and is very protective. I was getting ready to leave when she runs at top speeds away from her babies and towards my rooster. She knocked my rooster of the roost, all while squawking extremely loudly, and starting viciously pecking him. She stoped after about ten seconds or so. Does anyone know what happened?

She is protecting her babies. Roosters and bigger chickens alike will kill chicks. They instinctually know this and will do anything to keep their babies safe. You should separate her and the babies for at least 4 weeks, sometimes longer.

My hen was a fairly laid back broody but once her chicks hatched..... Holy cow! She acts like a rooster now, and making everyone jumpy and nervous
