In my humble opinion,

I think the most important rule would be to limit the amount of chatting and discussion going on. That's PM's and Email is for. I think that may be why some people are discouraged by the swap. Somebody is always asking what the current offer is!

The post is advertised as a swap thread, so I think that is all it should be. We'll probably get more people attacted to the thread if there is less yakkety-yak.

If Arab can wait to ship a couple of weeks, I'll be interested in the WLs. The others I got from her are doing excellent (28 of 30 developing).

As one of the people who offered non-chicken eggs, I'd just like to say that I'm glad I had the chance to. I just got my chickens and they're not laying yet. I was able to get a new bloodline of Serama eggs, so if I get at least one pullet from that, I'll have two pairs of Seramas to produce eggs. I didn't spend a ton of $$$ on the eggs, so I will have the opportunity to return the favour eventually by offering the eggs my Seramas produce on the egg train.

I'm glad I had the chance to. I'd hate to see someone else lose the chance to, but like someone else said, there's now the quail and game bird swap. There wasn't, when us quail people joined this one.

Anyway. Thanks.

I am involved in a PIF swap on another board. Similar to this only we swap something completely different than eggs but the same concept. It has been on going for quite some time and has worked out many of the bugs.

Some suggestions that that thread does:
A separate thread for chatting and a thread just for the swap.
They switch the person in charge every week so the same person is not in charge forever.
The person in charge of the thread that week sets up the new thread listing the rules...copy and pastes from the last thread.
The person in charge also edits the second post on the thread on a regular basis and posts who is sending what to who....example:
Siz is sending xx to Barnyard
Barnyard is sending xx to Pamspride
Pamspride is sending xx to Spookyevilone
Ect...etc...etc....

Then each person PM's the person they snagged eggs from with their address and what they snagged.
They also have a time limit in which the item must be received by and if there is a repeated violation they are banned from the thread.
The rules have also changed as majority demanded for them to change. The chat thread moves like crazy but, sometimes the swap thread does sit for a while....the more the swap goes on the longer it sits because everyone just ends up with everything there is available after a while. They also list in RED what is up for grabs so that it is clearly seen if someone is looking at the thread. Not sure if you can put color in here but maybe listing what is up for grabs in bold and all caps and underlined might help it be seen by people popping in.

I have to agree on all the jabbering. I think it's too much to sort through.

As far as the shipping dates, I can wait. Anyone who takes them can let me know when they want me to ship.

I'm sorry that my eggs have cause such a uproar...and not in a good way

I forgot... they also have a Thank You thread. It does not close or change. You MUST get on it and post when you receive your item. That one thread has not change even though the PIF swap itself has changed nearly 100 times. So, yes that is 3 threads for one swap. That is the case for each item....Example: a swap just for pure, one for non pure, and one for everything goes. The swap threads are under the swap heading and the swap chats are under the fun & games section of the forum.

I do not think that limiting a person to 1 or 2 trades a week is really a good idea, especially right now when there are not that many chickens laying. Yeah, some things seem to stall the thread a bit, but there are some breeds that are snapped up almost instantly (marans, seramas, hamburgs, probably others I have missed) and I would like to see more of.

The swap is a bit slow, so why limit things more? It will pick up better when more people's chickens start laying. I know I will be up for more trading when I have more to offer, but when I have them available, those Serama eggs sure go quick!

Can you put in a time stipulation rather than a number of times? Like if your eggs are not snagged from within 12 or 24 hours then you have to sit out for like three or five days. The person in charge of the thread could monitor that. (On the thread I am on you have only 4 hours then you have to offer up something different but obviously most people only have one choice so that is not possible on here.)
