I have a1yr old isa brown. Noticed yesterday that she was limping. No injury, heat and didn't wince on checking leg. However there is a 'creaking' noise coming from the side she's limping on. I have brought her inside, given her a couple of doses of baby paracetamol and let her site in a warm basin of water. Bit at a loss to what this is due to strange noise. Any advice welcome.

It could be a sprain, it could be arthritis (I think there is a form of viral arthritis chickens can get). Is the leg swollen, hot to the touch, or misshapen at all?

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I too think this could be a sprain or a joint problem too. Have you checked the pads of her feet for any swelling or discoloure of the pads? You could drop by the emergencies injuries disease and cure section too for more help. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC :frow

No outward sign of injury. Was worried she could be egg bound but she laid today. Seems very comfy tucked up in the pet carrier. Will check out the link thanks. This place is always my first point of ref with any queries. Thanks.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your hen, hope she recovers.

Welcome to BYC. My hips and knees creak too, if you find something that works for her, maybe I could try it too

Welcome to BYC!

Hope you find out what's happening with your girl. About a year ago we had a RIR that went lame in one leg and never regained full use of it but she is a trooper. She actually laid her first egg while we were nursing her on the porch and hasn't quit since. We made her an attached mini run and sectioned off a corner of the coop just for her (the other birds wouldn't stop attacking her) and she's the sweetest chicken we have. I'm just telling you all that so you don't think you have to automatically cull her if she doesn't make a full recovery...sometimes it's nice having a "special needs" chicken!

Good luck to you!
