Cream Legbar Chicks!!

Oh I'm terrible with auto-sexing breeds (emphasis on breeds). But they're really cute danger nuggets :love !
Omg Yes, totally dangerous little fluff nuggets!

Thanks everyone, I was able to talk myself down, due to all the lovely expertise here. ;) They only had those two, and they require you to buy four, but they also had Midnight Majesty Marans in back...

But in reality I plan to get my gorgeous Blue Copper Marans from a legit local breeder, who also has Opal Legbars, or Lavender Ameraucanas, so I know I would have much better options available, I might just have to wait. :/

Coming from TSC, you'd have to check which hatchery they order from. Even though CCLs are autosexing if they are well bred, they may not be easy to sex from a hatchery (because the hatchery is not constantly selecting and breeding only the males with distinct headspot and females with good coloration, for example).

May just have to wait until these feather out and look at them then. It should be evident in a few weeks if you have CCL or not.

I just got a pair from Murray McMurray - my male was grayish brown with a distinct white headspot, and my female was brown chipmunk striped - I thought she was one of my whiting true blues until her feathers came in. Because of the white headspots, I think both of those may be male. Have to wait until feathers come in to tell. However, the combs look right so far. I've noticed CCLs have like a 2/3 comb. The comb stops 2/3 up from the beak, whereas a standard straight comb breed goes all the way. Comb shape was my first clue that my chipmunk female was actually a CCL.

Post again in a few weeks. Good luck!

CCLs may lay blue, but more commonly lay green (pale green) due to some brown genetics being present in the breed. You can select for blue only in a breeding program, but I don't think hatcheries generally do that. SOP allows blue and green egg color.

Definitely go for the breeder birds! I'd go for the ameraucana aside from the BCM;)

Oh man those are far from ideally patterned Legbars.

Edit to add.... just saw your last reply so you saved me the trouble of replying with a lengthy response.

Hahah I should have waited to post! I would have loved to hear what you had to say lol But no, I managed to dodge those fluffy little bullets... This time! 😅

Neither one looks chipmunk patterned from what I can see.
No, they really weren't. 😬😬😬 I had never seen them in person before, but I was immediately surprised, because I didn't think they looked how I expected them to. I'm glad my instincts were correct, when I thought to myself, "What kind of legbars are those!?"

Oh wow! I didn't realize that both blue and green are even acceptable! I always just thought of them as blue layers. That's interesting.

You have more self control than I do. Lol
My coop is more or less maxed out anyway, which helps lol Plus, I am finally maybe *almost* getting the fallout of the earlier season's TSC shenanigans resolved and behind me, so that also helps, but the fact that I was giving it semi-serious consideration speaks to how quickly we forget! 😅
