Another question I have is would a male for sure pass on blue egg genetics?

genetically there are only two egg colors. White and blue.

Brown is an allele, or a genetic color coting, but is dominant over most everything else. So a brown egg, is really a white egg with a brown coating. A green or olive egg is a dominant blue egg, with a brown allele.

With that said, the CCL male, will have two copies of the blue egg gene. In order to get a blue egg laying chick from him, the mom must carry atleast one blue gene with no brown allele. This is why the WTB is such an accomplishment. It is a line of mixed breeds that still lay a blue egg.

If crossed with a brown egg layer, chicks will all have a blue egg with a brown allele, or what we know as a green egg.

So short answer, no. The mom must also lay a blue or white egg.

LOL, no, not a Bielefelder. I would have recognized those since I'm currently still growing them out in my basement lol They are chipmunk chicks, too. But with CLEOPATRA EYES, not a face dart. or something.

CCLs may lay blue, but more commonly lay green (pale green) due to some brown genetics being present in the breed. You can select for blue only in a breeding program, but I don't think hatcheries generally do that. SOP allows blue and green egg color.

Marshmallow "should" be carrying at least one copy, but who knows. I'm not really keeping him around necessarily to hatch out chicks, but I do find it cool just knowing that's a possibility. I will still probably rather take the time to source some better bets though if I want to start hatching rainbow layers...
