cream legbar crosses.. what to expect when crossing a cream legbar ro

well, they are cute. are you going to try again>
Someone told me unless I breed to another barred chicken that all I would get is Roos. She (my cream legbar) was bred to my black Silkie Roo. I think I will keep one of the Roos and when he’s old enough breed him to one of my Splash Silkie girls.

I had cream legbar x silverudd's blue(rooster) chicks. I kept two of the pullets. they are sex-linked but not if the male is the cream legbar which is weird.

We have both breeds of chickens and was thinking that once they are mature we could breed these. Both Silver Rudd Blue splash and blue future roos and Crested Cream Legbar pullets. I am wondering what color the eggs will be. Brighter green or darker blue? We hatched the SRB and the eggs were light green with small brown speckles. Since we bought the CCLB we have no idea how blue the eggs were.

There are breeders who sell the silverudds blue as the roo and the cream legbar as the hen and you get the sex linked. blueish colored chicks or my pullets were all blue with a bit of a fluff head. they lay similar to the cream legbar. mine are lighter blue. The silverudd's blue rooster was homozygus for the gene. and the body is slightly larger then the silvuerdd's blue.
some also do the opposite cross as they dont want to cull the cockerel chicks so this isnt the sex-linked version. the resulting birds turn out different too.
I would recommend testing your roosters for the blue egg gene.

Oh I did not realize you can do blood teat for that. Not to keep a chicken calm to get a sample. LOL. Where do you get the tests?

yes you can just trim the nail a bit too short.i just went very slowly until i trimmed where the nail quick just barely started to bleed. then you put it on the carboard paper they send you. if you cut too much you can use flour or hold the nail end. i put them on concrete for a few minutes to stay clean. They didnt even notice. remember to write the details of the bird per carboard.
iqbirdtesting. they do also have a feather test i think? but it costs more. You pay for the test then they send you the cardboard/paper. its really quite fast turnaround.

This may be a dumb question do you test both pullets and cockerels? The genetics game is new to me.
There is no such thing as a dumb question :)
If you can afford it, test all of them and keep the homozygus ones. but I couldnt afford to test other than my boys. which resulted in just two being homozygus and the other three were not. At least testing the boys and keeping the homozygus the offspring pullets will lay blue eggs no matter what.
Thats how alot of those farms that sell east eggers out of maran crosses get offspring that lay colored eggs plus the eggs are usually a nice dark blue but the offspring will be heterozygus for the blue egg gene
