Cream Legbar egg laying problems

"blue-egg laying EEs"......?? To replace the blue-egg laying CLB I just lost. I need the blue eggs to balance the egg carton of tans, reds and browns. I sell my eggs, and people expect to see the blue eggs in there.

Wondered how anyone can guarantee blue layers from a June hath?

Well, the eggs will be any color from olive green to turquoise blue. I have one EE hen left after having several over the years. The current one lays blue eggs identical in color to my Cream Legbar's blue eggs.

So, no, there is no guarantee I'll get true blue-egg layers by ordering EEs, or Ameraucanas, as the hatcheries all insist on calling them, even though we all know they aren't true Ameraucanas.

I love EEs because of the greenish and bluish eggs, and they're so sweet and affectionate. At least all of mine have been.

Ah, OK...yep, no guarantees for blue with EE.

I have a blue laying EE..... bought 2 chicks, 1 lays blue, the other lays green.
Got some nice OE out of the blue eggs with a Wellie cock.

Wanted to hatch some CL this year, but it's not panning out with a local 'breeder'.....
......they've been a bit less than fully forthcoming about egg color, so I passed.

Am probably going to grab some more ArauKinda chicks from the mill.

We are wondering if it’s a breed defect. Our little 7 month old Sookie, a cream legbar, was seeming just about to lay. Then boom, lethargic, barely clearing her crop, just wants to lay down. She’s been to the vet 3 times and we’ve gotten her crop moving and she’s digesting better now, but still lethargic and getting worse. We wonder if the egg laying process is just too hard on this breed.

I wanted to add more blue eggs to my egg sales as well. I wanted Cream Legbars, but too expensive and too long to wait. I bought 5 EE chicks a few days ago. I have 3 EE's already and they are great. I also have one olive egger. You are right, people love to see the variety of color in the carton! Good luck to us!

I am with you, I am concerned there are problems in the breeding lines, especially with the hatchery stock.

My cream Legbar is not only half the size she should be as an adult, but she rarely lays - and when she does, it's not blue eggs (they are pink). So she is definitely a genetic oddity (and yes, I am POSITIVE she is 100% Legbar and not a cross with anything).

Recently she has started laying soft and broken eggs frequently, and I'm sure the cause isn't her diet. She's just a weirdo. I really want to keep Legbars but just haven't had good luck so far, so might try ordering direct from Greenfire or one of the other reputable breeders.

Do you have pictures of the cLB that has pink eggs? My CLB just started laying 3 days ago and they are cream/pink!? I have attached so pictures of the hen and egg, do they look like yours?
